Shuhei Matsuyama was born in Tokyo in 1955. After completing his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown, he moved to Italy in 1976 to attend the Academy of Art in Perugia. In 1991, he arrived in Milan and began an intense exhibition career that took his works around the world, from Venice to Tokyo, from San Francisco to New York.

Of particular importance are the 5 SHIN-ON exhibitions presented in Venice over a span of 10 years, coinciding with the Venice Biennale. In France, his works were featured on the cover of the annual program for the Conservatoire de Paris. Public space has also been and continues to be an important part of his work. Major works include a 5-meter-tall columnar sculpture in Hakata, Japan, and a mosaic fountain in Rieti. Additionally, his works have been used in prestigious offices, hotels, apartments, and restaurants, such as in the presidential suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in Saudi Arabia.

A man between two worlds, Eastern and Western, he merges his painting experience with his spiritual one, creating works that synthesize two expressions: painting and sound, for the stimulation of the senses.

When asked: why do you work?
I answer: to grow.
Why do you want to grow? To know myself.
Why do you want to know yourself? To express myself.
Why do you want to express yourself? To be an artist (a person).
Why do you want to be an artist? To be free.
Why do you want to be free? To enjoy life.
