Alex Preti, born in Milan in 1978, is a painter and illustrator.
After studying at the Umberto Boccioni Art High School in Milan, he worked as a designer and model maker of collectible static figurines, as well as an illustrator for calendars, posters, and philatelic products. He then embarked on a three-year journey through Mexico and Guatemala, where he produced a substantial body of drawings, now held in private collections. In 2008, upon returning, he settled in the countryside of Cremona and has since focused primarily on oil painting.
Starting from a classical aesthetic, Preti places his subjects in symbolic, psychological, or metaphysical contexts.
XIII is a series of works aimed at exploring the meanings and suggestions associated with the 13th Major Arcana of the Tarot. All the works in the series depict veiled staircases, often inhabited by silhouetted figures and objects. The staircase is seen here as a symbol of transformation, a secret passage that sinks from the surface into the earth, connecting two worlds.
